We are proud to share that Prof. Margaret Kaseje, CEO of the Tropical Institute of Community Health and Development (TICH) and the President of The Association of Schools of Public Health in Africa (ASPHA), participated in the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union (AU), held under the leadership of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) on Friday, 13th February 2026.

This year’s session, themed “Building Africa's Health Security and Sovereignty – Investing in the Health Workforce, Community Health and Sustainable Immunization Programmes,” emphasized the central role of AU Member States in advancing a coordinated, continent-wide approach to strengthening Africa’s health systems.

Key priorities highlighted during the session included:

  • Investing in a resilient and well-trained health workforce
  • Strengthening community health systems as the foundation of primary health care
  • Expanding sustainable immunization programmes to protect future generations
  • Advancing Africa’s health sovereignty through locally driven solutions and strategic partnerships

Prof. Margaret Kaseje’s participation reinforces TICH’s commitment to supporting a safer, healthier, and more self-reliant Africa. We remain dedicated to collaborating with national, continental, and international stakeholders to strengthen health security and drive sustainable impact across the continent.
