CLIMATE CHANGE AND THE ENVIROMENT

Admin | general

Introduction

The tropical Institute of Community Health and Development (TICH) is a training, research and enterprise institution that focuses on empowering local communities through training of youth in employable skills to contribute to poverty reduction and how to tackle the climate change challenges.  TICH mobilizes different communities in Kenya to use green energy that comes from natural, renewable sources like sunlight, wind, and water, producing power with little to no environmental harm. Key examples include solar, wind, hydroelectric, and geothermal energy. As pioneers of Community Based Health Care, TICH pilot the training and engagement of community health workers (CHWs) as solar accessories sales agents. The proposed model connects TICH with every household in 10 counties across Kenya. The one-year pilot, TICH trains 200 CHWs as solar accessories sales agents supported by TICH trained solar technicians to solve technical problems that arise.
