Youth group making a formal visitation to their local health facility date to engage the health personnel on the availability and functionality of youth friendly services at Emunuku health Centre.
This followed realization among young people regarding their rights to demand from their local facilities the SRHR services. After young people had been mobilised and trained on Comprehensive Sexuality education (using youth for youth curriculum), they developed a work plan and the to improve SRHR situation in their locality (sub location)
This happened with Emunuku Community Health Unit (CHU) based youth group, in Butere Sub County – Kakamega County. The youth group started with 28 members aged 10-24 years.
At health facility young people were received by the facility in-charge and staff who together went through the assessment checklist for youth friendly services that the young people wanted briefing on. The meeting established that the facility offered the following services:
- Post abortion care
- Family planning
- Guidance and counselling on relationships
- HIV/AIDS testing and counselling
- STI screening and treatment
Based on this both the facility staff and young people agreed to develop action plan for strengthening the YFS provision according the Kenya guidelines with a time frame of December 2018
