The top priority of TICH is to tackle the problem of poverty by promoting employment through training activities, focusing on skills to create wealth through job opportunities with five pillars: 1. Health and Development (Community Health and development, nursing, pharmacy, public health, clinical medicine and community oral health); 2. Construction, Green energy and waste management, 3. ICT, digitalization, and Communication technologies 4. Hospitality, Food and nutrition security, Agribusiness, food processing, and 5. Teacher Education focusing on Early Childhood and primary education.
TICH, plays a pivotal role in supporting the Counties build the requisite skills for achievement of the country’s vision 2030, focusing on disadvantaged groups, to integrate them into value chains as employees, suppliers or sales partners, enhancing their employability through courses and work placements, matching labour supply and demand. TICH partnership with the counties has massive economic and health potential due to her extensive engagement with communities and health facilities in more than 20 counties.
Persisting poor maternal and child health indicators fueled by poverty limiting access to essential care package leads to more than 60% of the households being trapped in a vicious circle of poverty and ill-health. Poverty, food and nutrition insecurity orchestrated by poor agricultural techniques and lack of value addition on produce through manufacturing leads to massive unemployment worsened by a mismatch between skills and labour market demands. TICH trains on livelihoods skills, value addition, renewable energy such as solar power installation, bio-sanitation design, installation, and maintenance for managing liquid waste to produce biogas and fertilizers, all for economic sustainability by increasing household incomes and capacity to address ill-health. This also addresses the great need for alternative cheaper energy sources such as solar and biogas energy. Women are the backbone of our economy and community. Our focus on reaching women seeks to leverage on the innovative support to community based women led initiatives, by building the capacity of women entrepreneurs to boost expansion of their productivity and growth. Capacity building of women is critical to unlocking their potential as key drivers of African economies.
