Emunuku CHU is found in Butere sub county and is among the 11 CHU in the sub county that are beneficiary to Get Up Speak Out program that is implemented by TICH in partnership with county and sub county ministry of health. The CHU integrated young people in the CHU and has a youth group. The young group is composed of 28 members who are between aged 10-24 years and has leadership structure comprised of chairperson, secretary, treasurer and organizing secretary.
The youths were mobilised for a youth for youth training which is a curriculum based and takes four days for its completion. The expected outcomes were to develop work plan and the training was also expected to change the attitude of young people as well as improving their knowledge about SRH issues which will inspire them to seek for reproductive health services and information within their link health facility.
Due to the intensity of training and information they got from the training, on the third day of the training youths demanded to visit their link health facility and inquire about the reproductive health services that are being provided to the young people. They therefore walked to health facility and when they reached, they were received warmly by the health facility in-charge who addressed their needs and informed them of various youth friendly services that the health facility is providing to young people on a daily basis these included:
- Post abortion care
- Family planning
- Guidance and counselling on relationships
- HIV/AIDS testing and counselling
- STI screening and treatment
Being that visiting health facility during training was not component of the training we regard this activity as the best practise and as one of the best story to tell that occurred during training. We therefore hail youth members of Emunuku for such a brilliant idea of visiting the health facility. We also appreciate the health facility in-charge for such a warm welcome that the youths received being that it was an impromptu visit
